Hello everyone,

Well, I recently had a speed update from my isp and would like to setup my connection optimally.

Connection: Fiber over PPPoE (FTTB I think its called), no router/modem
OS: XP SP3
ISP: RDS Romania, advertised speed is up to 50 Mb/s

Actually i think that value is a bit to high since i`m not getting the maximum 50Mbs (I might test it though)

I went with those settings:

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
MTU 1480
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - 506880
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Windows Scaling - check
Timestamps - uncheck

Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
LocalPriority - 1
Host Priority - 1
DNSPriority - 1
NetbtPriority - 1
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 80
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0
NetFailureCacheTime - 0
NegativeSOACache Time - 0
LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768
Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect

So my analyzer results are now:

« SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »
Tested on: 06.25.2010 11:20
IP address: 79.116.xxx.xx
Client OS: Windows XP

TCP options string: 020405a00103030301010402
MSS: 1440
MTU: 1480
TCP Window: 506880 (multiple of MSS)
RWIN Scaling: 3 bits (2^3=8)
Unscaled RWIN : 63360
Recommended RWINs: 63360, 126720, 253440, 506880, 1013760
BDP limit (200ms): 20275kbps (2534KBytes/s)
BDP limit (500ms): 8110kbps (1014KBytes/s)
MTU Discovery: ON
TTL: 50
Timestamps: OFF
SACKs: ON
IP ToS: 00000000 (0)

But I dont see any improvement in speed, I hope my settings are optimal, that was my main concern.

if u set mtu to 1492? Do some tests setting rwin double than yours. Also take off your wires from elecrical signals and make a full scan with malwarebytes, cause your tracert is not looking so fine as it might be. Also leave your equipment powered off, for about 5-10 minutes and unplug the electrical cords. ALso, go to your network adapter properties>advanced and set transmit and receive levels to the highest values. Especially transmit value. In the same tab set all offload tasks=on

Thanks for your help.

I tried setting MTU to 1492 but it doesn`t change, after reboot its back to 1480
I think thats set up by the ISP`s routers

Setting RWIN to 1013760 didn`t help also the speed is the same.

I have no problem with viruses and malware, I am using Malwarebytes very good tool.

I dont have a modem/router so i dont think i can do anything about the traceroute but i`ve seen it inproved, last year it was much worse :P
