It's so high that they can even keep the sliders on their chutes, they have to be removed for alot of base jumps to speed up opening.

Curious, if they're seeking height...why not jump out of a plane which can get much higher?

Base jumping offers a much different sensation than skydiving. When you jump out of a plane you are only accelerating from ~90MPH to ~120MPH, so you don't really experience that "falling" sensation. Then for some people there may be the added "thrill factor" of having essentially no room for error and no backups... I don't know, I've never base jumped so I'm just speculating.
