Hello guys, I thought I would put this question to the experts here!

Anyway, I have road runner digital phone. Its the voip + cable modem combo router (motorola). Recently, I keep loosing my wireless connection when the phone rings with a incoming call. I was using a wrt54g router (linksys) and when this started to happen (never happened until recently!) I replaced the router with a new belkin 54g router. Well, when the phone rang today, the @!$#$@#$@ wireless shut off on the router. Any ideas what the @!$#$@ is causing this, its annoying! I am using the WIRELESS to operate my netbook pc.. Thanks!

Ps - its NOT my computer, and when I search for WIRELESS NETWORKS IN RANGE it finds TONS, just MY router is not listed!

Let me just understand your topology quick:

Incoming Broadband -> Motorola Cable Modem/VOIP/Router -> Wireless Router

So then:

Wireless Router cabled --> Computer(s)
Wireless Router WIFI --> Laptop(s)

Is that correct? Please correct what might be wrong as it could help but based on that theory I'll go with:

-- The WIFI router has been acting in router mode. Pulling down it's own IP to use. In effect you were pulling down at least 2 IPs, possibly three. One for the cable modem/router, one possibly for the VOIP, and one for the WIFI router.
-- RR decided to tighten up it's IP usage and as such is only allowing you two IPs. One for your cable modem/router and one for VOIP. When a call comes in your WIFI router loses it's IP then and you thus lose your connection to the inet.

Solutions!

-- Put the cable modem/router in bridge mode. Leave the VOIP be letting it do it's own thing.
-- Or put the WIFI router in bridge mode letting the cable modem/router do your network's NAT.

Does your routers have an uplink port i would just static route the two routers ,and use a crossover in the uplink ports if it has it.

Another thing that might work is if you wireless has an ap mode set in that mode and give it an ip of the same network ip the wired router is on. Rip should take care of the routing ,,or you can still static route it.

What is breands and models of the routers this is kinda of a trickey setup though?

You could also try putting dsl fitlers on the phone it might help the drops.
