My wife wants new carpets. We decided that before we do, she also wanted a new vacuum. Ok.......which one? Hoover? Nope, she wanted a Dyson on a recommendation by my brother.

"Sure" I thought....."it can't be that much better than what we are using now.

The vac came by DHL today. We took our old Hoover out and vacuumed a test area at least 3 times. Then we went over it with the central vac. No beater brush with the central vac but this thing has suction galore.

Then we went over it once with the Dyson.

Man o man this thing is a keeper. Cheap looking but boy does it work. This thing sucked up sand and dirt like crazy. Cat hair. Unbelievable. All this with one pass.

It's easy to use and to push around. It weighs less than the Hoover and the wife loves every thing about it but the cord. I guess she wants to keep it.

Was it Stonecat that also bought one? I know someone here owns one and loves it.

Cheaply made, overpriced Vac! Bought 2, got my money back both times! The first one I bought fell apart on the first day!

I purchased mine refurb'ed from amazon, it arrived brand new for ~$250

I might buy a refurb like zooner, but I looked at them before buying a kenmore and at $500+ they appeared fragile with too many plastic parts. The Kenmore has been flawless and is sturdy. I have a Bosch also that has served me well.

Personally, I think they " SUCK "

Kirby is where it's at

I have one...and love it. Tough too....like most of my equipment, I beat the heck out of it...this thing's still going strong.

Like Ken...the suction is quite exceptional!

The only thing I'll say I wish was better, at least on my older model, was that that beater bar attachment was self powered, instead of powered by the intake of air like a turbine. Granted it doesn't affect me much..since I don't have much carpeting in my house..but on my throw carpets in the bathrooms, which are thicker plush types, the beater bar sometimes stalls. But on regular carpets, and wood/tile floors...it's great.

And they have a HEPA filter. So the exhausted air is quite clean.

The "Ball"....It does have a beater bar that's powered. I'd recommend you shut it off with older carpet around the seams. Powerful...

On them area rugs? The smaller ones? If you don't have them stuck down, shut off the beat bar...it'll eat em up.

The real test is still to come. This house as allergy as well as asthma sufferers. Lets see how they do in a week or two.

I guy at work has one, not the ball. He also has several big dogs with long hair. He said his got hot from some major spring cleaning. He shut it off and let it cool down. It didn't work right after that, something to do with the plastic expanding and cause an air leak.

He took it in for repairs and found out most of it is made or plastic, and parts only come from dyson and are major expencive. If you get one, don't let it over heat. My dirt devil is running fine no complaints.

From what I understand, if you have a lot of pet hair, especially longer dog hair, you need to clean the filter more often than every 6 months as recommended.

Ahh cool...they changed that. That was pretty much the only complaint I'd have...but as mentioned, it doesn't affect me much, since the majority of my house is not carpeted..and what carpets I have, are fairly short. Just something in the back of my mind...thinking "Geeze...if I had a huge livingroom carpet...it wouldn't work well."

Mine is an older cannister model...I prefer those over uprights, as I hold the cannister with my left hand, work the wand/broom around with my right. Just poking at their website now, looks like they don't do cannisters anymore. I'll admit when I first got it...I noticed the majority of it was all plastic, and thought to myself "Geeze..this isn't gonna last with me."...but it's still going strong. And I've broken other brand vacuums in less time than this one is still running strong.

Anyways..love it, powerful.

Acording to consumer reports they're of only average efficiency and a bit pricey for what you get. I ended up with a reccommended eureka model and it's pretty impressive.

I replaced a Eureka with mine.

"Pricey for what you get"...that's a Kirby! Granted Kirbys are awesome vacuums...just...triple the price for what they're worth, IMO. And that's based on owning one, back around ....oh...1992..they were about $1,400.00 back then. And I can't stand their business model...it's a huge high turnover circle sales dealio...super high pressure sales business model. (I lived with a girl who worked for them for about 6 months).

You only WISH I had a pink apron, but I don't swing like you Conneticuttians. And it's BEAR CLAW slippers! Get it right you drunkard! I dunno from vacuums, so I just take the advice of an independent org rather than trust the advertisers. My Eureka Boss has a HEPA filter and makes the carpet look new. I don't vaccum the hardwood floors I use the swipes on them.

I have a Rainbow. They use water to trap the dust. It is wonderful for people with allergies, becaus eyou can also use it as an air purifier. Anybody seen that episode of Everybody loves Raymond where he buys a vacuum without Debra's consent? That was a rainbow. The only negative thing about them is it is a pain to have to clean out the basin, and fill it up....lot's of set up...when you just want to do a quick vacuum before company comes over or something, lol!
