Rumors on Gas prices.

It keeps popping up that it will be close to $4 tommorow morning because of Rita. Anyone else here this. If so I'm fillng up tonight.

It's not because of Rita...it's because everyone starts freaking out and then the stations jack it up because they can. Rita is just a big mass of unstable air moving across the globe; oil execs are the ones who'll ultimately make it "pop up".

If everyone believes the rumor, then yes, it will go up because stations will sell out faster then normal.

There is no low grade or mid grade available in our city right now, only high grade.
Drove by one station with cars lined up and a tanker truck just sitting there, they won't unload untill all the high priced high grade is gone also.
And I bet the minute they unload the "NEW" price will be at least 50 cents a liter more.
As a Canadian, I'm getting sick of this chit, we have been over priced and over taxed on fuel for many years now, we produce enuff oil and gas to be self sustaining, but those in the greed have chosen to sell to the States and we have to buy from Europe to make up for what goes stateside. That decision was probably made to keep the US from forcibly taking OUR oil.
Then some friggin hurricane hits LA and we pay through the nose because Americans are running out and to we have to pay what that fuel is worth stateside, TOTAL BS.
Now, another Hurricane is about to hit, and the Oil Company's are jacking us already and it hasn't even happened yet.
Now the main reason we are so dependant on fossil fuel is because the Americans WILL NOT GIVE UP THEIR GAS GUZZLERS. We in Canada are forced by the monopolies to purchase equivilant vehicals that the Americans want. They will not offer Canadians what we want, only what Americans want.
I want a small pickup with diesel, something available everywhere in the world except North America, WHY?
Because Americans have not wanted it.
MAIGS from taking it dry, but I can't afford the lube anymore

I just finished filling up my Tempo at $1.04 / litre.
Already some gas stations in this province have gone over $2 / litre.
I predict that within 2-3 years, for the average worker, it will come down to deciding between having a vehicle or a roof over your head.

Again I must question where this
fact was gathered? Perhaps you could post a link?

Again I need a link to the source that states the price of gas across the continent is the way it is because our vehicles average 20mpg instead of 35?
Presumption and expectations do not a fact make.
Please, I understand that this is how you view the situation but I would barely call your opinions simple "Facts"

it went from $2.49 yesterday to $2.59 today but i talked to the guy that owns the station down the street,,we went to school togehter,he said he's not raising it more this time,he lost customers last time...

Although I concur that the US market drives specific expectations in the Canadian scheme, there is no reason to believe that if economical cars and trucks were offered as imports to your country they would not sell. So the question would be, why has no one tried it?

how much is ONE tank gonna really do for ya dude,
maybe if you have 1000 gal tank,but,,,,,not worth running down and waiting in line.
whan the day comes that they perfect the system to run cars off of human gas,(farts) then I will have plenty for everyone!

They are just starting to arrive David, the Smart Car for one, In our small city there are at least 5 of them already.
Imports were big up here, but they have been Americanized and are mostly gas guzzlers also.
Times they are a changin as America starts to pay also.
I for one want to see more alternatives.
My one love, my Ford Ranger, best fuel efficiency for a truck, which I need to carry tools, yet it is offered everywhere else in the world with an efficient 4 cyl diesel option and Americans have not fell in love with diesel yet, or it would be here, now thats just one ex, I'm sure there are more

The US market has had many companies dipping their toes into the economy market. Mitsu had a couple of turbodiesel trucks and VW offered the Rabbit diesel powered P/U, but imported so few to the US. The big three offer diesel trucks, but only those with cartoonish power outputs and commensurate fuel efficiency. We do have a decent selection of gas powered four and six cylinder P/U here in the US, and they are quite popular. With the newer generation of cleaner (this is an important issue, believe it out not, in the US) burning diesels, I am certain they can make inroads in the light truck market.

Oh it will happen David, but it should have happened long ago. My Ranger has the best fuel economy in a Pick up in North America, but it isn't good enuff.
Yet the Ranger was available in the 80's with a Diesel along with the Tempo, Americans wouldn't buy it, not as peppy as gas and smelly was the complaint, there were a few around here. So Ford killed it.
You have to admitt the car makers build what the US market wants, not Canada, So we are stuck with the same gas guzzlers that are south of the border.
I do think though, with the current trend in gas prices that American consumers will start to change their mind about cubic inches. Because I can't wait to trade in my small pickup for a small diesel pickup.
Whats really funny is I get 24-26MPG hiway with my small pickup, guy i do some work for gets 23-24 with his f350 4 door one ton dually diesel.

This is somewhat true..but still if you can fill a 30gal Tank and save almost 1$. in total that adds up.

I agree,the prices around here change every week,,if i fill up on a week when the gas is lower i guess its like saving a lil money by not having to hit the station when it's high...

Mine went up an average of fifteen cents. Not as bad as I thought but I saved a little, by not waiting till Monday when they put the boots to us.

Advantage to riding a motorcycle: To get ~120 miles out of it, I pay a good $4 at the pump. Full tank.
I advise car drivers to think about it.

Haven't heard that but I figured it would, any excuse to hammer the consumer. Prices were dipping down hear in SoCal too. At least I got one tank filled when the price was in the $2.80 range

Not good in the rain, not good for carrying a ton of stuff, no comforts liek surround sound, no air bags for accidents, added costs of insurance. I dont see a bike as a good daily alternative. As a weekend toy to go out cruising, absolutely, just not a commuter.

yea i have 2 right down the street and they are driveway to driveway together and 1 is $2.49 and the other is $2.59,,wierd.........
