Any suggestions for a good one? I'm looking for a 17" or 19". I don't need anything fancy...just something that looks pretty good. Trying to stay under $325 if possible.
Also, what refresh rate do I want? I don't do any computer gaming....the only thing I do other than word processing, surf the internet, etc. is occasionally watch movies/TV shows.

watch the techbargains.com site..cause they will post codes for the Dell 20" Widescreen for around the 350$ mark and maybe lower usually once a week they have a good deal going on and that would be perfect for ya.

I've become a loyal Viewsonic fan. LCDs are not measured in refresh rates the same as CRTs, rather...the key is "response time". For the average computer user, if you're not looking to spend a lot, a 25ms response time LCD would be a good bet for you. Anything slower would be a really old model, anything faster would command a higher price...aimed more at graphics arts users and gamers...such as 16ms, 12ms, 8ms, etc.
The VA series from Viewsonic is one of their basic models. You can pick up a va702b (17") for about 250 bucks, their va912b (19") for around 350 bucks.

Thanks for the input. I ended up with a Samsung Syncmaster 19" LCD for $270 from Buy.com--which I thought was a great deal. From everything I've read it seems that Dell, Samsung & Viewsonic are among the best. It has 8ms response time which is much faster than I need but I couldn't pass up that good of a price for that monitor.

I have a Viewsonic VP912b and I love it. 12ms response and works great. It's a bit spendy though. But you get what you pay for. Works great in games.

I have an NEC 1760V (17") with a 16ms response time and I love it. Games just as good as my friends Samsung 915N 19" with a 8ms reponse.
