Problem :( Pls help!

Post by Neptune-Sya »

Okay the other day my phone line went down and I called the phone line company to come and fix it - and they did, they sent a technician today. Apparently the lines to my house were brittle and broke at the router box for my area. Therefore they had to install new wires for my line. Now here is the interesting thing; while my phone was down (all of yesterday) I was able to still use my internet (I have Bell Sympatico DSL). When i conducted a speed test i noticed that the download speed was relatively slow, yet the upload remained unaffected. There was difference in upload even though my phone line was down.

Well now that my phone line is back up and working again, I conducted a speed test and my speeds are slower than before, but my upload remains the same as before, wasn't affected at all! wth?

Is there anyway that the new line affected my DSL download speeds? I'm posting here before I decide to call Bell tech support to see if anyone has any ideas.

Maybe i should try tweaking. My caps are 3000/800 and I;m using Win XP Pro. Here are my analyzer results:
TCP options string = 020405ac01010402
MTU = 1492
MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1452
MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65535

Note: Under Windows 9x, if you have RWIN set to any other value, and the Analyzer reports 65535 you might need to install the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2621.4 kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1048.56 kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 120 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000

Wow, I am so upset at all of this crap I can dropkick someone. Well here is where I'm at right now, I have called Tech support 4 times, and they still have not sent anyone out to verify what the technician did. In fact, they told me that if they schedule someone to go out and do that that it would cost me $100 dollars. Lovely isn' it. So instead, I find out that they dropped my profile from 3.0/8000 to 1730/320. I WAS FURIOUS!

I ended up calling them AGAIN, and after 1h 25mins on the phone, they bumbed me to a 2496/640 platform. ANyways, i gather that I will never see my orginal 2480/660 speeds ever again :( :( :(

Anywho, i was wondering if someone could tweak my crap so I can squeeze more out of this already crappy connection.

thanks,

:(

Try thease in the sg optmizer below me to download and install

select - cable
check - custom settings
network adapter selection -
check modify all adapters
maxmtu -1492
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window 63888
MTU Discovery - yes
Black Hole Detect - no
Selective Acks - yes
Max Dup ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 windows scailing is checked

Other Settings tab:

Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
Lan Browsing Speedup - optimized

Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect.

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections -

LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot 1.2 http://beam.to/spybotsd & Ad Aware 6.0 http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.

7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in Read1st link.

8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it then visit Zonelabs.com for further instructions on removing it's left over junk.

9. Install Outpost Firewall http://www.agnitum.com\ or Sygate Firewall http://www.sygate.com/ , both have FREE and Pro versions and are heads above ZA.

10. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one IMMEDIATELY, AVG 6.0 http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php is an excellent FREE AV app.

11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates
