Need help with cookies !

Post by sandralynn4 »

I seem to be having a problem with my cookies. When I go to some websites, they tell me my cookies are not enabled and I need to enable them. I DO have them enabled and I've tried everything, but it keeps telling me they are not enabled. I have gone under tools/internet options/privacy , and I have it set for "medium ". I've even set it to "low" just to try that out.I have clicked " apply " and "ok". I have run the Internet Explorer Repair Tool, just incase there was something wrong. I have uninstalled IE6 and re-installed it. I don't know what is wrong and it's frustrating me! I can't get in to some sites because of it. I am running Windows 98SE and have IE6. Can someone please help?! Thanks :)

Try this, go to tools/internet options/privacy and then go to advanced. Now check the box to "override automatic cookie handling". Check "accept first party cookies", "reject all third party cookies", and "allow session cookies". These are the settings I use and I have no problem with cookies on any of the sites I go to. These settings will also reduce a lot of the tracking cookies from sites like doubleclick, etc.

Hi,

Thanks very much for the suggestion. It didn't work though :( However, I discovered that if I turn Zone Alarm off, it seems to fix my problem. I'm not sure why.....? I have been having trouble with my firewall interfering lately though. I'm wondering if I should uninstall and reinstall ? I had to reformat my computer recently, and therefore needed to reinstall my programs.Ever since then, I have had the troubles with Zone Alarm, but never before that. Anyway, if anyone has any insight , let me know :)

Sorry, can't help you with zonealarm. I've never used it myself, and haven't used a software firewall since I got my router a several years ago.

If you're using ZA Pro, click on the Privacy tab and see if Cookie Control is turned on. If it is turn it off.

Thanks for the suggestions : ) I had uninstalled Zone Alarm and tried to reinstall it, but had trouble. So I installed a different firewall instead. Seems to be working just fine :)
