Sharing DVDR drive on network

Post by hjm357 »

I am building a computer to use as a sort of server in my house. It's going to share a printer and play music on my stereo, backup files, etc.

If I were to put my DVD burner in it, would I be able to share it so multiple computers could burn DVDs?

Should be able to without any trouble, the trouble will come in by burning across your network, risking data corruption if anything else is using the network while the burn is on, better to copy files to server machine and burn directly

I used to burn cdr's across a wired network all the time. Sometimes I'd even one of the cdr's on the server, while I burned another cdr on my main rig with data from the same HD as the other cdr was burning from on the server.

works out nice, but the speed demands of a DVDR would be much more challanging. might work on a wired network, but doubt it'd work on a wireless.
Strap It On Whenever It Seems Appropriate

the DVD-r is only a 4 speed. How would I go about sharing it? Is it as simple as sharing the E drive on the network (like i would to share a folder)?
