Now you're getting me stumped!

Maybe you have TOO MUCH RAM! LOL. (Kidding...you running a Citrix server or something? :D )

OK lets review...you're at the latest ATI Catalyst drivers, 4.2, right? When you did upgrade....did you try ATI's Cat removers? It's a separate program you download from them, to fully remove traces of prior Catalyst versions. First you uninstall prior Cats in Add/Remove programs, then run this removal program.

Your system is squeeky clean from ad/spyware? Spybot search and destroy, install, update, scan. Try the same with Adaware.

Assuming you've run a virus scan.

As a test, I don't know what antivirus program you're using, but disable real time file protection while you're playing the game. Just remember...ENABLE it once you're done playing the game...before you check mail, go online, etc.

Do you shut down other programs you have running while playing, like instant messengers, etc.

Adjust monitor refresh rate? Do you have the latest drivers installed for your monitor?

Starting to grasp as straws here, the only issue I heard about ATI card and COD was in 3.8. or 3.9 Cats...and that was a lockup, which they (ATI) fixed.

you think your stumped! as your aware ive been having problems with COD for a while....cut a long story short i had to reformat the HD yesterday, installed ALL the latest drivers. ATI / Monitor etc, used CAT romover etc.. system is adware/virus free. messenger NOT running when i play the game, i only leave running the very basics when playin COD.

as for the antivirus, im using ..F-Secure 2004, i also use Adaware pro.+spybot ....comes up clean!

starting to think "is this game REALY worth it" ????

oh and what is a CITRIX server???? ER, UM now you have me stumped lol

Hmmm...fresh install, that rules out old drivers and accumulated junk. So how about disabling your antivirus protection while playing the game?

The game is worth it in single player mode, fun for the 2-3 days most peeps take to finish the game. I found multiplayer so...."3 years ago."

Citrix? It's a server usually stuffed with 2-4 processors, and 2-4 gigs of RAM, meant to host many sessions of "remote desktop" at the same time. For remote users to connect to at companies...a souped up Terminal Server...a super PcAnywhere or VNC on steriods if you will.

Audigy 2 ZS huh?

Have you tried updating those drivers? How about shutting down any programs in the background via TaskManager.

I also noticed that CoD will not run if my CD-Rom was set to DMA mode only - it would only work in PIO.

Just my two cents of experience with CoD which I completed in 4Days - never had a true "CTD" (Crash-to-Desktop) problem with it though. Great game, 2 short...IMHO...

go into your ati control panel and disable vpu recovery that fixed it for me. Is your graphic card overheating I had that problem with an old GF4 ti 4600 the fan stopped spinning. Remove the dust from your computer.

Why the hell do people hate COD's multiplayer? I like it more then battlefields even though its a different game thats why I haven't been on the server in a while.

both are fine games but I have shot guys with a stinger or rpg in BF1942 and they did not die. The hit detection is bad. Also if you jump like 4 feet your guys die.

hi guys, nice to see theres lots of people out there willing to give addvice...

well i was curious about "Opmharley" suggestion regarding disabling the VPU Recover, well im off now to try that, ill run the game today and update you on the results i get, lets keep our fingers crossed !

as for playing in single player mode, well ive never played it that way. to me its boring, theres nothing better than playing REAL people online, you never know what going to happen next or what they are going to do.

also as for running the game with nothing else running in the background, i though it might be that so i shut off ALMOST everyting including my AV, but it was still the same.

while im here anyone know where i can get the NO CD crack for the game?

cheers guys :thumb:

update soon

oh buy the way, if you ever see me on a server (player name "The Undertaker GB"...Be gentle with me guys, i kill easily lol :D

I had a problem with COD and went thru hell trying to get to the bottom of it. Endless suggestions from the makers..... shut this off, turn that off, ect. I finally got sick of all the trouble and quit playing it. When I bought a Radeon 9800 Pro I re-installed it and played it all the way thru without any problems. Leads me to believe it was a video driver issue. Sorry I'm not much help, just thought I'd let you know what happened to me.

I feel your pain !

You can get the no CD patch here:

It's not that I hate it, I just find it...sooo....3 years ago. It's a simple rehash of MOHAA and SH...with slightly fluffier graphics.

Battlefield raised the bar for me regarding online FPS type games...the huge wide open levels, everything you saw you could walk across, drive over, fly over, go behind, etc etc...unlike the corridor type levels of the antiquated Q3 engine. The vehicles...planes...ships...turrets..you can actually use them, not stare at them like in CoD. So many pluses for me, are worth the slight sloppiness of the physics engine.

It's both but the multi player is by far the best ive played...It does have it's quirks but they are outweighed by the rest of the game..IMHO

Kinda just there for practice..you can do quick battles against "bots"....but really that's just to learn the game.
