Ad blocking with Zone Alarm Pro...not working.

I'm using Zone Alarm Pro 3.5, with Ad blocking set to High, yet it seems that nearly all ads are still showing up. Any way to fix this, or will i have to use another 3rd party program or can I use a HOSTS file thing? thanks for your time.

Sorry Doug but I'm not a ZAP person. I would recommend the host file myself.

Why aren't all banner ads blocked?
Your ad blocking settings may be too low.
Choose the High setting to block all ads (banner, pop-up/under, animation).
Choose the Medium setting to block all pop-up/under and animation ads and slow-loading banner ads. This allows banner ads that do not slow down your browsing performance to remain.
Choose the Off setting and no ads will be blocked.

Why aren't all pop-up ads blocked?
Some pop-ups may be page functionality. Some pop-ups are created in a way that is difficult to determine if the pop-up is an ad or is page functionality that you may want. Our ad-blocking is tuned to be as effective as possible without being intrusive to your browsing experience, so when a pop-up may be page functionality we allow it to load. You can block ads like this by turning mobile code control on, but this may occasionally block page functionality as well. Your feedback will help us to improve the way we handle pop-ups under default settings in future releases. Please let us know about ads we don't block by emailing
minfo@zonelabs.com. This will allow us to collect more info on this issue.
Nothing there you don't already know but that's what they have to say about it.
What Blebs suggested is probably the most surefire way to stop them or use a 3rd party ad blocker like AdShield from
this site or POW from
AnalogX is another good one.
AdShield uses the Hosts file method but makes the file accessable from the tray icon. They have a Support forum at Becky's as well.

hmm....it does appear to block some of the banner ads, but most of the other ads remain.
and I just noticed that I am now getting the SG Crucial ad, when before I did not.....so I dont know.
I'll try that AdSheild you suggessted Croc.

I use CookieCop to stop all the pop up adverts. Its a free program which has been out for quite a while. Of course it cannot tell the difference between malicious and non malicious pop ups, so I usually set it to bring up a dialog box each time a pop up occurs (which is not as often as one might think).
Also they have a good site blocking capability within it - which I use instead of editing the hosts file.
