If it was DX9, before the RC1, then the only way to uninstall is syetme restore, to date prior to the install of the DX9, Or a reformat. If it is RC1 of later there is a uninstaller. I will find the link.

A reformat is the best thing to do, I had a simialr prob, I just reformated and install DX( and then my Vid drivers, everything is flawless now.

I would say, Put your XP disk in and exit any autorun BS, Then go to Start/Run sfc /scannow. Afetr that is done try to install DX8.1 first. After that try to install DX9. Give that a shot. Also if you run Spybot for spyware, run that and remove any thing to do with MS Direct Draw and that sort of thing.

Download this...
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... bsetup.exe
You will most likely need an administrative account to install it so if you are not the owner of the comp just ask the owner to do it.

I had the same problem with Catalysts drivers for a Radeon 8500. It was the strangest thing. I ended up with a fresh format.
