Sympatico help
TCP options string = 0204058601010402
MTU = 1454
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
MSS = 1414
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1414, which equals MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 8484
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 8484
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
520352 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)
260176 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
130088 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
65044 (MSS x 46)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 339.36 kbps (42.42 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 135.744 kbps (16.968 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 119 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
4934047 connections tested since 03.10.2001.
Analyzer version: 1.02 - updated 09.20.2002
I have an HP pent 3 256 ram 60 Gig Hd and am on Sympatico high speed running Windows 98Se with all the updates.
My questions are:
What is Cablenut and do I need to download it?
How can I change things to make this computer faster?
What else needs to be changed besides the MTU?
Should I update my Access manager to the newest version first?
TIA.

You look pretty good your RWIN is lower then the recommended of 24038, if you want to raise it download Dr.TCP from that page, open it and choose your Ethernet card from the drop down menu. Set your Receive Window to the value I posted, close Dr.TCP and reboot.
You can also up your MTU to 1492, by changing it in Access Manager (Which is EnterNet). I keep posting the instructions here, so now I'm just going to post the link to the instructions to save space and stop repeating myself. http://www.carricksolutions.com/enternet.htm#27

With an RWIN that high you will have slow web page loading and allot of retransmissions.... it's basic TCP/IP. One week you say this the next week you say that Lobo..... you will never understand how things work.

YOURS discusions are never ending stories
but this case is not point for none of you

UNFORTUNATELY
her TCP/IP settings is ONLY guess-work...
IMHO SG TCP Optymizer (PPPoE, Optimal)

First off, I did follow these instruction step by step and second these guys can play and argue all they want. If you think you can help or do better, then go ahead and do it. Lobo, mnosteele is right, my pages are not loading. Bob said to do something with my ethernet card but I'm on a USB modem. I should have said that because maybe that's the problem. I've checked and rechecked the numbers and they are all in properly. My MTU is at 1492. The microsoft patch is in. I rebooted after every step and did it in the order posted. I did not post in this forum to ignore the advice given to me and if Andrzej needs a translater then I can set you up in the general forum.
you are TOTALY right
as you follow ME it is not my native lng
IMHO(in my humble opinion) this tread your responce were very, VERY weak
for 3*experts sugestions
your posts were with new results & unknown settings.
I'm in doubts:
1.Q do you use TCP Optymizer before last TCP/IP Analizer result?
2.Q do you explain post with sugestion to use one?
3.Q do you explain any yours result after adviced experts settings?
please apologize me
I'm no argue my advices for person with "weak expression"...
...I still learn also ... engl. hehehehehe

Ten miutes later.....Lobo, I'm using his numbers and have taken out the TCP Optimizer totally. My speed tests at the Sympatico site are really bad. 130 I think was the last one. I know that the CableNut settings are right but my question is this, did I somehow miss a step? Is Access Manager set up to handle these settings? Look guys, I'm just guessing because I really don't know. Maybe tonight I will remove everthing and start fresh.

For my speed tests I link directly from my Sympatico start up page. I can't cut or copy it to post for you. I think my best bet is to start from scratch. I had to have done something wrong that I'm not seeing. I have gone through all your links and mnosteele's and Bob's site, that's why I'm so confused....I read too much.
sorry my comments ... simple as a peeper
slow down
IMHO your settings are good
but you did too many & too diferent thinks in evry step
& this is the reason that
I did not follow your settings
step by step:
results
but with comments what settings (in details) was used :2cool:
inform about prgs were used
BTW pay attention
during instalation CN previous TCP/IP settings disapear
you can save in with SG TCP Optymizer
TCP/IP will be with default values

Christine reinstall CableNut and use the settings I posted for you above and see how they work. Also take a look at this thread it may pertain to you, I'm not sure. Once you have used the settings I posted please do the OOL FTP speed test and another TCP/IP Analyzer test and post the results. The problem may be out of your control but I can assure you the settings I posted will only help your connection not hurt it. If things are still messed up we can go from there.

MSS = 1452
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1452, which equals MSS.
MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 31944
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 31944
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1277.76 kbps (159.72 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 511.104 kbps (63.888 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 55 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 01011100
Precedence (priority) = 010 (immediate)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 1 (high reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)
Sympatico speed tests at 1497, 1469 and 1482.
I read the thread and I do know that they were running some maintenance since last night till about 8pm but they said it would not affect the internet, only customer care.
I'm going to surf some pages and see how it goes.
