Get an iPod!

Post by Brk »

This is seriously the best piece of hardware I've ever purchased. I got the 20 GB and I have all my favorite CDs on it, in perfect quality. Plug my Sony studio headphones into it and VOILA! Magic audio, man. I recommend it to ANYONE!

I personally think that iPod is a really cool looking portable player...however, i would think that it's too big for a MP3 player. True that it can be used as a hard drive, but why? The reason you buy it is for music, so why not buy a net MD player? I personally own 5 MD players and i loved them all lol :D :D

Just got the kid this Archos MP3 player...20 gigs of HD storage, USB 2.0 for lightening fast transfers from your 'puter.

If you got the Archos, you can change the firmware for a 3rd party one that adds a load of functionality - highly recommended.

The Ipod is a beautiful peice of hardware but too expensive and a little too pretty. It's also missing a few essential features (for me at least), e.g. non-removable battery, can't upload cue sheets, won't play large mp3's, can only sync with 1 computer only. All in all it's a very macintosh piece of work. Nice to look at but I wouldn't get one.

Personally I'm about to get my hands on a second hand PJB100 from Hango/Remote Solutions. It was originally a research project of Compact but Hango bought up the rights and marketed it (although not that well as it's relatively unknown).
It is IMO still the best PC solution out there (although larger than the ipod) and there is active 3rd party development for it and a solid user base.

I thought about the Archos player, but opted for the iPod for both the ease of use with the jog control, simple playlist management and its aesthetics, of course. Either way, having dozens of your favorite albums handy is worth the price for either player!

Yeah 20 gigs is an aweful lot of music....plus USB 2...heh, so quick. I don't know if I were to get one for myself which I would have gotten....the Archos we got for him, cuz he turned 12 yesterday, and the Archos has those rubber corners...seems somewhat "kidproof" as far as bumps and drops go. If I were to get one for myself...dunno what I'd get.

Ideally something that I could uplink to my car stereo is what I'm looking for....as I don't need anything with headphones, "walkman type", but rather something to take tunes on the road with.

Well, Breakout at least...I don't think it's one of the iPod's selling points, though.

MP3 players are nice and small, but ONLY thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a remote control....All 5 of my MD players have a remote control and I got used to it already...I hate to hold my player in my hand, I just leave it in my bag even tho it's small :)

Net MD transfer is as fast as a MP3 player, LP4 allows 320 mins per disc....also you can exchange discs with friends and stuff....

Why remote retarded? I hate it when people hold their disc players in their hand, looks more retarded. The remotes I got looks amazing, maybe remote in your mind is a little volume control thingy...but nah, but MD it's so fancy.

I know I was thinking that...I mean, it's a portable device already the size of, or smaller, than most remotes.

It's like having a remote control for your computers mouse.

doesn't matter with the size of it tho....

For me i jsut hate to hold whatever player in my hand and have a wire hanging down from my hand, or i hate to see people doing it....so i would prefer a remote and have my player in my pocket or bag. Infact, my next MP3/MD player HAS to have a remote, not a crappy one, but a nice one ;)

Many MP3 players have a line out so you can link up with anything with a line in. Alternatively, you can use the casette adaptor thingy if you stereo doesn't have an aux input.

Generally speaking, MP3 players are almost there. THe next generation will hopefully be the real thing. I'm talking nice to look out, better to listen to, and real convenient to use.

In the mean time, I'll be enjoying my PJB which should arrive soon. It sounds great and is convenient to use (although only USB 1, with 20GB I can upload my collection once and only do minor changes after that). I can't wait :D

A few weeks back I got a good deal on the Archos 20 GB Recorder. I use it for my car - plugs right in to the tape deck. I have about 10 GB of songs on it now but I wish the shuffle feature would shuffle through all folders (currently it just shuffles through the current folder and I keep all albumns in their own folder)

Maybe there is a way to shuffle through the whole player and I'm just missing it. Either way this thing is awesome for the car.

If a friend of mine ever asks if I want to smoke, I can say ... "No, I can't smoke .. my MP3 player is in the ash tray" ;)

Can't you make a playlist of everything and just shuffle that?

Check out the website I posted, http://rockbox.haxx.se, they even have a link to a remote control for the archos.

This open source firmware is THE way to go - it's like getting a new machine, or so I'm told.

Enjoy!

That's prolly what I'll do...get a new deck for my Jeep with aux source jacks in the back. Right now it's the cheapo factory tape deck. Haven't visited the Crutchfield guys yet for this vehicle like I usually do.

dude, i m not saying that MD doesn't have wire for the headphone, just that u don't have to hold the disc player on your HAND and instead you can put it in your pocket or bag while having full control with your song selections and volume.

I guess this is just the difference of thinking of Asian and Amercians lol...*hint* that's why Japan's stuffs look a LOT cooler *hint* :p
