pc won't boot!! help!! part 2!!

Post by ed_fubes »

ok , i brought the pc back to my vendor today. As soon as he plugged the power supply in and turned it on, it booted fine!! So at the moment, I felt really stupid.... So we tried it a couple more times, and it worked fine. So now I take it home, turned it on., its fine on the first boot. But when I shut down to reboot again, well, it doesn't boot!! So i feel like a jackas$ at the moment, cuz the pc is playin tricks on me, it boots when it wants to. ANyone have any suggestions as to how i can fix this???
I mean, if it boots up again, I'd probably never turn it off!!

i'd say try a NEW power supply..see how much it costs, or try to reproduce the problem there (hope it doesn't work there heh)...sounds to me like there's something goofy happening.. check the physical power switch in the front of the case..does it 'click' or feel clicky when you hit it and it doesn't work? or does it just go in and out smoothly..u want it to click.

yeah it does click. I get the feeling that the pc will boot only when there's a couple hours of off time in btwn. Because it booted when it was a the vendors and it worked when I first got home. But this problem only arose when I tried to install the new ram yesterday. So i'm sure i somehow screwed it up yesterday.
when I power on now, with a cd in the cd drive. You can hear it reading the cd. Without the cd in the drive, it'll search for sth to read in the cd drive. Its like the cd rom is the first thing and only thing it goes to.

Dude, yank the cover off. wait till it won't boot and grab your DVOM and measure the voltage coming off the PSU. You should have 12v and 5v. You have a PSU giving you crap.
