Comcast@HOME E-mail hell!!!

Post by crazyjw1971 »

I dont usually whine and complain. I dont like to jump-start hells fire, but here goes. Hopefully some of y'all @HOME vets can tell me what I should do.

12/21/01- I go to check my email through outlook express (4 accounts). When it gets to the @HOME account, I get a pop-up window that requests my login and password. I enter it in. No go. I do it again. No go. After trying for like 10 minutes I say "screw it, it must be a temporary problem" and go to bed.

12/22/01- I go to check my email again. Same thing. Now I call the tech morons. After going through a list of "system checks", its determined that the problem is internal (No? DUH!). I get transferred to "Moronnes Levelia Dos" (Level 2...). After going through the the same crap, they tell me that my primary login was somehow deleted (jwilliams3132) and changed to "goodcats2". Im like "wtf"? They try to reset the account but they cant so they transfer me to level 1. Now Im getting pissed. After spending another 15 minutes on the phone with level 1, they transfer me back to level 2! WTF???? Of course, you know I get transferred to level 1 AGAIN. This is where I ask if they can actually fix the problem, or am I just getting jerked around. Which answer do you think I got? They finally tell me that the system that they use to enter and change login names is down and that they will get back to me in 24 to 48 hours. Well, I made several calls this day to get the same "bail out" excuse.

12/23/01 (Happy Birthday to me! Yeah right!)- I try to check my email. No go. I call back. I get the EXACT same run around. I get the exact same "bail out" excuse. I called 6 times to get 6 different techs to get the exact same excuse! Im not even gonna tell y'all how many times I was transferred to level 2.

12/24/01- Same as above, except now someone has put in a service ticket to have this login name "system" repaired. Again, numerous calls, transferring, cussing, screaming, blah blah blah.

12/25/01 (Merry Christmas!)- I didnt even bother...

12/26/01- Same as 12/22 - 12/24. Same excuse. Same run around. Nothing has changed. Again, a DIFFERENT tech promises to call me back.

I've been without my @HOME email AND web space since 12/21/01. Damn right I'm going to demand that I be credited for my inconvenience. Any other suggestions? Anybody out there ever had this type of problem? Are there any @HOME tech support people out there that can give me a hand or lend any advice? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Well, you're beating a dead horse that will be laid to rest in about two months. You're pretty much stuck with the people you're calling and there's not a whole lot you can do about it. It'd be hard to find anyoen that cared all that much if you have email or not. I'd suggest changing over to a web-based email like Yahoo or something like that until you get switched out of the @home fiasco and over to a permanent network.

If I'm paying for something, I want it to work!

Dead horse huh. I think they'll get tired of me cussing eventually.

They are definately MORONS!

I totally understand and sympathize with you, but you have awhile before it's all over and you're onto Comcast's new network, so it'll probably get worse before it gets better. And all the cussing is going to do is make them hang up on you -- which they can do and not get in trouble for -- and cause you to have an aneurysm. It ain't worth it.

I am having a similar problem but with the comcast.net e-mails. I know my old @Home server name was mail.adubn1.nj.home.com but now it's simply mail.comcast.net. But I can't log in with my master username. The support lady also said that she assumed that all the old accounts would be transfered over, that websites would be transfered and she was unaware of any download Caps in the future. But then again, this is a Comcast CSR, who knows what they tell them. Today is the day the new comcast.net service should be in place.

comcast.net conversion?

Post by AJ Weber »

cplclegg,

What's your status today (12/27) with the conversion. My router can't get a connection, and I don't want to install the CD Comcast sent if I don't have to.

Do you know what their new system is checking? (The @Home required a specific hostname to give you a dynamic IP.) I'm pretty sure they didn't go to PPPoE, but wondering what I have to do to get back up-and-running. Hopefully their new S/W doesn't register the MAC address or something...that would suck because I'd have to install the S/W and find a way to uninstall it later...which is nearly impossible with the stuff they included.

Don't bother calling support today...as you could probably guess.

Thanks for any help.

talked to a lvl2 tech

Post by AJ Weber »

I finally got through three levels of support to "Level 2". This guy sounded like he knew his stuff. Here's the low-down:

It's straight TCP/DHCP now. You can change the computer (or router  ) name to anything you want. No PPPoE. Nothing.

The only thing is if you had a static address, you're going to have to go DHCP. That's their only option. Not bad.

Both the level 1 and level 2 tech said you can skip the disk if you know what you're doing.

Basically besides installing the latest IE and OE, it
  • re-configures your TCP settings to be DHCP,
    disables printer and file sharing,
reconfigures your Outlook Express mail account from .home.com to .comcast.net and moves your existing emails on the @home mail server to the comcast server

So if you move your own email, and change your mail servers to mail.comcast.net and smtp.comcast.net you should be golden...

Me...I'm a sad case...

They've also swapped a lot of the head-end equipment. Thus, apparently the signal to my cablemodem is too strong! So the next appt. is Jan 2! Nah, I go and buy a bi-directional signal attenuator at Rat-Shack for $8. But that isn't working either, so now I'm on hold again...

UPDATE!!!

Post by crazyjw1971 »

12/28/01- I'm happy now. I guess they figured out how to put my primary logon back on my account. I tried to call on 12/27 but the lines were too busy.

Now I'm wondering if I'll have a connection when I get home. I pinged it and got nothing!

Oh lord...

The problem was that my PRIMARY LOGIN name was DELETED and replaced with something else. They fixed it on 12/28 since their system was working again.

P.S... Oh, I'm home now! 4 days of using someone elses AOL account is HELL on the nervous system! Not including the fact that the computer I was using was my old PC that I sold to my fiancee's sister. Damn... now I remember why I got rid of it! LOL!

What was really nice was that I got their letter saying to set everything to find the net automatically including using DHCP for WINS. Well nothing worked and I had to track down my old static IP and also their new mail server is not responding. My guess is that they have about 2 million people all trying to get an IP through DHCP at one time and some people are blocked out. Or their network is a flaming piece of cow dung, either way it's causing me to really consider the switch to DSL even though I hate Verizon.
