I thought My baby girl was dying in my arms @ 2:30 am

Post by Randy »

never been so freekin scared in my life!

I hear 2 blood curdling screems coming from my 14 month baby girl. My wife and I flew into her room where she was trembling. Her eyes rolled back into her head and she started haveing convulsions. My wife runs and calls 911 while i try to check her airway. I couldnt get my finger in her mouth as it was locked shut.

She was haveing a seizure. After about 1 minute she went limp I thought she was dying :( but her heart was beating and soon she opend her eyes and was groggy. the ambulance showed up and said that it was common. 2-5% of all babies up to 3 years old have a febrile seizure.

We went to the hospital and they got her fever down and sent her home.

I know alot of us here have babies and I think that knowing aboutfebrile seizures is worth a read.

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

sometimes you have to think outside the box to get inside the box ;).

Back when I was in 7th grade, this one kid in my gym class had a seisure. It was nuts, he was just laying there shaking and stuff. Crazy.

Hey Randy. It is scary to see for the first time. I used to have convulsions for the first few years of my life every time I had a fever. My mother reminds me of it to this day lol. Glad to see the baby is alright.

Watching an adult have either a petite or a grand mal can scare the crap out of you. I know that fear had to have been amplified at least 1000 times with the baby.

I'm glad to hear she's doing a little better. What's caused her temperature anyway? Did I miss that?

i dont think it will scare me as much.. just beeing aware of it makes it easier 2 - 5 % is alot. if there is a next time i will just drive her to hospital. 30 - 40% chance she may have another seizure before age 3.

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

Oh man...I would freak in a big way!!

I've raised two kids and thank god nothing like that has ever happened. My only bad times are/were tneir teenage years!

Glad to hear your baby girl is ok!!
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

Glad to hear she is OK Randy. As a Firefighter/Paramedic I see seizures almost every day, febrile seizures usually aren't too much to worry about a lot of kids have them. As I'm sure they told you at the hospital just keep her from injuring herself and call 911. There really isn't much else you can do, I know it's a helpless feeling, but atleast you did the right thing and she is fine.

I'm so glad your little girl is fine. Considering the circumstances you and your better half seemed to have handled the situation pretty well.

Take care and I hope it does not happen again.

A very close friend of mine had the exact same thing happen to her son. Just the one time and nothing since then. He's now a very happy 3 year old.

Hi Randy

Scary moments in a Parents life those.

You feel so utterly helpless. You did well in getting 911 ASAP

Pleased that all has worked out well. Lets hope neither You nor Your Child every has to go through that again.

Say a Prayer tonight, someone is watching over You.

regards

That's frightening, Randy. Thanks for posting the link.

We had a couple of terrifying incidents just out of the blue:

My daughter went into shock from a bee-sting allergy and my granddaughter went into diabetic coma.

Everyone needs to keep an eye on the little ones because some things require prompt attention.

Frightening, Randy. Hope it's a once only for your baby.

Thanks for the link.
My son has a sting allergy that has put us into a spin on several occasions and my granddaughter suffered with Sleep Apnea. Many sleepless nights until she was old enough to have surgery.

Take care.
