win XP fat32 ,NTFS 80GB hd usb/usb2

Post by joey »

it is P4 2.6
i have new 80GB hard drive with 8mb mem.and want to install win XP, also i would like to partition the hd to 40/40
i would like to use fat32. when i use the startup win98 disk it says i have 10GB.
what's wrong?
what tools can i use to be able to use fat32? (with 80GB hd)?
how can i change from default NTFS to 32. ?
in the past i used to format the hd as fat 32 and then install the xp selecting "intact....." option from the instalasion.

what is the differance between USB and USB2?
and can i plug any usb divice to usb or usb2 ?
thank you

First, wrong forum.

Second, you only need to set your CD drive to boot and then you can partition and format during the XP installation. If you want to format as FAT32 using a boot disk, you'll need an updated Win98 boot disk...you will only be able to use FAT32 on a partition up to 32 GB in size. Otherwise, you'll need a utility like PartitionMagic to format the entire 80 GB in FAT32.

USB 2.0 is faster than USB 1.1. USB 2.0 is backwards-compatible with the slower USB ports.

Win98 fdisk cannot deal with HD larger than 64G
Format your HD with the HD format utiltiy from your
HD vendors website. Maxtor uses MaxiBlast, others
have something similar.
