Guess what I found ?
The protocols are fine. I checked on the Cox link as well.
But..........there was the old D-Link cards properties, etc in the list.
I almost gagged. Removed them and rebooted.
Surely I'll get better results now. What do you think ?

I have done all the above down to the letter.

Seems faster all ready. I had done the speedGuide tweaks and the Optimizer. But not many of the above.

I only have one question here. On your first adjustment line:::
1. "Under your Configuration tab for your Network settings make sure you have only ...

My driver is dated= 8/23/99
But I can't seem to find a newer one. I tried the update file and it came up with the same driver.

In the Device Manager, the 3Com has no more adjustments than any other network adapter card I've ever installed.
For the price I payed for this thing I thought I'd get ...

Which NIC

I got a good tip on NIC cards from here last Oct when I hosted a LAN party with 16 flight sim buddies.
I ordered a 3Com "3CR990 TX 97 w/Processor" and it held up very well under the load.

My question to you gurus is: Now that I'm back to hosting online only again (IP address), my new NIC doesn't ...

The dedicated server programs in most of the WWII flight sims I use are not Linux, Redhat or DOS based. You can run a 24-7 d-server on dogfight modes though. Meaning you host a preset map with ground targets , etc that you add and a max of 16 to 32 people can join and leave at random.
Mostly air ...

YeOldeStonecat

You sir have saved me and probably several others some time by answering my post in this detailed way.
I know I could have made it all work in the end. But from reading your step by step approach I know it wouldn't have been correct or 100% for what I'm wanting to do at this LAN. And ...

Whew ! Thanks again.
I thought I was really going to have to spend more money on this deal than first expected.
I'm just doing this LAN once. The thought of doing big LAN parties for profit gives me headache.
I'm sure glad I asked about all this here first.

Now to see if I got this right. Let me ...

Thank you for the fast reply Stonecat.
I'll try to answer your questions so you can help me a bit more.

The games we will be playing (except for one) are non-dedicated server type flight sims. They are generally hosted by a player with a good machine on a broadband conx. Or the games are hosted by ...

LAN PARTY:need advice.

Hiya ,

My online WWII flight-sim buddies are finally getting together for a private 3 day LAN-meet after all these years.
Flying and driving in from all over the States next month.
So I want to make sure everything is perfect well in advance.

There will be ( 12 to 14 ) PCs to network.
Here's ...

Download SiSoft Sandra or another good utillity and check for "HEAT". Games like BF1942, Aces High, Quake, etc really get those vid and sound cards heated up.
From what you described in your post, your game play turns to crap after 20 minutes or so of hard gaming ?

If it is a temp problem I know a ...
