Most cable modems on the market now actually use a 10/100 ethernet port, as many ISP's offer downloads that exceed the 10mbps. Some models have a section in the internal status page that will show you what you are connected at.
Many older routers may say 10/100 which may be true for the LAN side ports, but the 'uplink' or 'wan' port will still be just 10mbps, so if you're paying for speed > 10mpbs make sure your router handles it. The usb connection speed is a limit of usb technology, not the modem itself. |
