Cabling - Can I use Cat5 patch cable with Gigabit Ethernet ?

Technically you should use Cat5e or Cat6 cables for Gigabit Ethernet, since they have lower resistance and reduced signal loss.

However, if using short length Cat5 cables you will not experience any noticeable difference.

Note unlike 100Mbps, you have to use all 8 wires (4 twisted pairs) to get a Gigabit connection.
