Technologies that fit in this category include PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol), L2TP (Layer 2 tunneling protocol) and IPSec. Note that tunneling and VPN is not intended as a substitute for data encryption by itself. For a higher security level strong encryption should be used within the VPN. |
